As lovers of the spotlight who view life as a stage, a Leo bride or groom was born to strut down the aisle on their wedding day. Born between July 23 to August 22, this Fire sign is generally associated with light, love, confidence, optimism, loyalty, creativity, courage, ambition, and compassion. Represented by the Lion, Leos are natural born leaders of the zodiac who live life to the fullest and are driven to reach their goals. They’re ruled by the sun, the celestial body that governs life and vitality, which reflects Leos’ cheerful disposition and buoyant energy.

Leos who are getting ready to tie the knot probably have a few key wedding planning desires and design preferences that suit their sign. To match their larger-than-life personalities, Leos tend to throw over-the-top weddings that make a big impression on family and friends. “Fiery Leo is one of the most dramatic and romantic zodiac signs of all,” celebrity astrologist Kyle Thomas says. “They look at life as a theater, and they are the celebrity on the red carpet. That means that they are likely not to spare any indulgence or desire to make sure their special day is the talk of the town and one of the most spectacular weddings that will go down in memory.”

If you’re a Leo who has recently gotten engaged, you’re probably wondering how to orchestrate an affair that feels on par with your vibrant, fun-loving persona. We chatted with a few astrologers to break down the wedding planning process for this zodiac sign, from selecting the perfect venue to decorating your dream day. Ahead, the best tips and advice to help you plan a wedding celebration that’s up to Leos’ standards.

Wedding Planning

Since Leos have lofty dreams and are drawn to drama, there’s no question that the vision for their big day will be a grand one. Lions love being the center of attention, so they’ll select details that are guaranteed to elicit a response from others, from a statement-making outfit to elaborate decorations. Overall, their intention is to throw a party that their guests will never forget, so they’ll commit themselves to creating a high-energy, upbeat atmosphere for all of their festivities. “The focus is on entertaining and making sure everyone is impressed by the evening,” notes Julia Topaz, consultant, teacher, and founder of Look Up the Stars Astrology

With Leos’ confidence, they will never waiver when making decisions during the wedding planning stages, whether it’s logistical or design-oriented. Due to their work ethic and determination, Leos will throw themselves into conceptualizing and executing their nuptials, taking the lead on tasks and crossing outstanding items off of their list with swiftness and ease. Although this Fire sign will be tempted to spearhead the process, they’ll want to chat with their partner before making anything official.

Wedding Season

According to our experts, there are a few key date ranges to consider for Leos’ nuptials that will lead to a more romantic affair and a longer-lasting marriage. First and foremost, Thomas says that Lions will feel most comfortable trading vows during Leo season, any time from July 23 to August 22. Other times of the year that will provide optimal conditions for this Fire sign are Sagittarius Season, which lasts from November 22 to December 21, or near a full moon in Sagittarius, which takes place between May 21 and June 20. Thomas also says Aquarius season, any time from January 20 to February 18, is a desirable option for a Leo bride or groom.

With their high ambitions and desire to demand attention, Leos won’t be throwing down at a local spot. They’ll have their hearts set on a destination wedding in an exotic location—anywhere from Barbados to Bora Bora—which will ensure that their loved ones can experience something new and unexpected as part of the celebration.

Due to their inclination for opulence and grandeur, Leos will choose locales that have “incredible views, architecture, or gardens,” Thomas notes. “They will seek anything that makes them feel regal.” For that reason, this sign will look at extravagant and exclusive places, whether that be a castle, chateau, private estate, or palace. Opulent ballrooms with intricate embellishments and scenic celebrations with sweeping views of the ocean or mountains will also be a natural fit.

Wedding Décor

No other zodiac sign loves glitz and glamor as much as Leos. That’s why they should channel their inner Lion and throw an affair with a glamorous aesthetic. This zodiac sign should look for opportunities to showcase flashy details, such as an oversized hanging floral installation above the dance floor, tall centerpieces of baby’s breath and orchids towering above the tables, or twinkle lights that resemble a starry night. Sparkly and metallic accents will also turn heads, whether it’s gold-rimmed glassware or disco balls suspended from above.

Although an all-white or black-and-white color scheme with pops of glitter and gold tend to fare best with glamorous themes, Leos aren’t afraid of infusing color into their celebrations. “For this out-there personality, punchy yellow and cheerful peach is a must for their wedding color palette since the sun is their ruling planet,” New York City-based astrologer and author Lisa Stardust explains. These hues are particularly conducive to a summer celebration by the beach during Leo season.

Wedding Food and Drink

Leos are all about putting on a show, so they won’t hold back on the food and drink displays at their reception. To kick off cocktail hour, Stardust suggests serving a Prickly Pear Margarita, which is “a vibrant-colored drink that will add intense flavor to any Leo’s wedding,” she shares. Over-the-top appetizers will also abound, such as a seafood bar, a caviar tower, or a charcuterie spread.

For the main meal, fire signs will host a formal sit-down dinner with multiple courses showcasing high-quality cuisine. “They’ll have an abundance of options for the entrée to show off their fabulousness,” Stardust remarks. Some ideas include beef tenderloin with red wine jus, cedar plank salmon with a maple glaze, or seared scallops smothered in lemon garlic sauce for the main course, plus seasonal salads, truffle risotto, and roasted vegetables for sides. Of course, the food won’t just stop at dinner. Late-night bites, from a s’mores bar to an ice cream sundae station, will blow guests away.

Wedding Cake

The motto, “Go big or go home,” will guide Leos’ dessert selection. For Lions who are cake aficionados, confections with multiple tiers covered in embellishments will suit their personality and style. Think floating layers decorated with a cascade of blooms, textured fondant with gilded touches, or colorful sweets with sculptural details. Once they cut into their cake, the classic chocolate and vanilla flavors just won’t cut it. These signs will opt for bold and unexpected tastes, like honey lavender, red velvet, salted caramel, or strawberry champagne.

Since cake is the traditional wedding dessert, Leos will also make a splash by serving an alternative. “Leo has a bold personality and likes to make a statement,” Stardust begins. “Why not choose a cheesecake, fruity cake, or cookie tower for effect? They’ll love the dramatic style.”

Leos will be looking to make an entrance at their wedding, so they’ll put a lot of thought into their wardrobe. For Leo brides, Topaz says, “She would select a stunning, show-stopping dress that makes a statement and reflects her confident, sexy, and bold personality. It needs to shine and outshine everyone!” According to Stardust, a ball gown will fulfill Leos’ desire to show off their style. Since maximalism is at their core, they’ll select a getup doused in embellishments, like beads, sequins, sparkles, or floral appliqués—or a combination of all of them. Daring details, such as a thigh-high slit or a plunging neckline, will also deliver. For Leo grooms, Stardust suggests a colorful tuxedo.

Honeymoon Destination

After they’ve tied the knot, the wedding festivities won’t be over for Leos. Lions will jet off to a luxurious destination for a post-nuptial vacation to remember. “Leos want to spend their honeymoon days floating on the ritz and living the high-class life,” Stardust says. “In this case, they’ll totally love Monte Carlo.” A spot with all of the frills will be the most comfortable place for Leos to unwind and celebrate their new marriage. They’ll probably stay in a suite at an all-inclusive resort and spend the entirety of the vacation getting pampered with spa treatments and fine dining.
