The 30 Best Men's Wedding Bands of 2022

Brides / Bailey Mariner

Choosing a groom’s wedding band is a crucial part of the wedding planning process. And no, the groom's ring is not just limited to a plain golden band—there is a wide range of styles and metals to choose from.

“It’s a collaborative process,” says jeweler David Schoenfeld. “Often, the bride buys the groom’s wedding band to reciprocate after receiving an engagement ring. That being said, it’s also common for guys to know what they want and pick it out themselves.”

“Men’s wedding bands are no longer ‘one style fits all,’” Schoenfeld explains. In fact, designs can vary with different metallic blends, intricate textures, 18k diamond-encrusted gold details, and classic dome profiles. With so many different choices out there, there really are phenomenal options at every price point.

Whether you’re after a traditional look or something as unique as your relationship, we've researched the best men's wedding bands on the market. If you're partial to classic styles, we recommend the MAREI Eterno Knife Edge Wedding Ring and the Anna Sheffield Classic Half Round Band. Grooms with bold taste will love the Auvere Galactic Band Polished and the Simon G. Wedding Band Ring in Gold.

Meet the Expert

David Schoenfeld is the founder of Ring Bear, which offers men's wedding bands and gifts.

What to Look for When Choosing a Groom's Wedding Band

Material

When choosing a men’s wedding band consider other jewelry you wear regularly. You’ll also want to evaluate how hard you are on your hands. Precious metals like gold, silver, and platinum are great choices but may not be ideal if you are physically working with your hands all the time. If you’re looking for the strongest metal, choose a ring made from tungsten like the Black Beveled ring from Ring Bear. Tungsten is extremely durable, scratch-resistant, and reasonably priced.

Silicone is another wedding band material option. While most couples opt for the classic silver, yellow gold, white gold, or platinum wedding band, it’s common to also have a simple silicone band for times when you don’t want to wear your best jewelry. The Elements Classic Silicone Ring by Enso, which comes in copper, gold, and silver, as well as other colors, is a great option. Since they are a fraction of the price of the real thing, a silicone band is ideal to wear when traveling, exercising, doing outdoor activities, or working with your hands.

Style

The groom-to-be should choose a wedding band most suited to their individual style, be it an eco-friendly blended metal or a durable silicone ring. If sensitive skin is an issue, choose a pure metal (gold, silver, or platinum) and avoid anything that contains nickel.

There are many style options to consider for a groom's wedding. “Between different materials, colors, widths, and styles, there’s an opportunity for subtle yet meaningful variation to better fit his lifestyle and personality,” Schoenfeld says.

Width

To choose the best wedding band width, the groom might want to try different size bands on his hand to see what feels most comfortable. Men’s wedding bands generally range in width from 3 millimeters to 9 millimeters, but most fall in the 5- to 6-millimeter range. For an ultra-slim band, our most subtle option, ByChari’s Bold Zoe Ring, is just 2.6 millimeters wide. If you’re looking for a wider band that makes more of a statement, The Ambassador by Benchmark has a script pattern and is 8 millimeters wide.

Cost

Depending on the type of material you choose, the price of a wedding band can vary. “The average for a tungsten band is $200-$300; gold (yellow or white) is $350-1,000 depending on the carat; and platinum can be found at $1,000-1,200,” Schoenfeld says.

FAQ
  • When should the groom begin looking for a ring?

Picking out a groom’s wedding band is an incredibly important purchase, so take the time to make the process about him. “It’s never too early to start shopping, but in reality, three to six months before the big day allows for plenty of time to learn his preferences,” Schoenfeld says. In order to make sure the band is ready for the big day, be sure to purchase it at least two months before the wedding in case it needs to be resized or exchanged.

  • Does the groom's ring have to match the bride's ring?

Like many other decisions, this really just depends on the couple. Some couples like to have rings that match to symbolize their unity. But other couples may prefer to have their ring reflect their individuality.

  • What if the groom's not used to wearing a ring?

If your groom is having some hesitations about wearing a ring for the first time, Schoenfeld suggests investing in a band that’s designed with a “comfort fit.” These bands tend to be a little pricier since they require more material, but they’re easier to slip over the knuckle and don’t pinch the skin. “For many guys wearing a ring is new to them, but if the band fits great and is comfortable, he’ll quickly get used to having it on all the time,” Schoenfeld says.

  • What is the most popular men’s wedding band?

While yellow gold is the most common type of groom's band, there are many metal and material options to consider. “White gold has really caught on recently," Schoenfeld says. "Platinum is the top-of-the-line option, and tungsten is a newer offering that is often more affordable.”

  • What is the most comfortable material for a men's wedding band?

If you’re in search of the most comfortable men’s wedding band, there are two things to consider, fit and material. Rings described as having a "comfort fit" are rounded on the inside so they are easy to slip on and off. These rings are also called “low dome” because they are thinner and lighter, which also makes them more comfortable. The most comfortable wedding band materials are those that are the most lightweight. Titanium is the lightest metal wedding band material, and silicone is the lightest wedding band material overall.
