Showing up to another person’s wedding wearing white is considered to be one of the biggest faux pas a guest could make, but Olivia Wilde pulled it off—and did it with a sense of humor. The Don’t Worry Darling star attended a friend’s wedding over the weekend, and she sported a silk slip dress with a low back by Nili Lotan for the occasion. On May 14, 2023, the House actress shared a preview of her bridal-inspired attire on her Instagram Story. “Wore a wedding dress to a wedding just so I could make a joke about it in my toast,” she quipped. The photo shows that Wilde paired her ensemble with black sunglasses and a white parasol, and she wore her hair down in waves. Based on the photo, it appears that the ceremony took place outdoors overlooking a vineyard, and two palm trees flanked the floral arch at the altar.

After delivering her toast, Wilde uploaded a photo hugging her friend—whose name she never disclosed—on the next slide. “The grooms approved,” she joked. In the next Story, Wilde shared another update from later in the evening. The O.C. actress shared a clip of herself with lipstick smeared on and around her lips while a friend tried to wipe off the makeup. “Women in bathrooms are saving each others lives (from bad makeup),” she recapped.

It seems like white has been Wilde’s color of choice as of late; the actress also wore the hue to the 2023 Met Gala on May 1, 2023. The Babylon star channeled a blushing bride by donning a white Chloé gown featuring side cut-outs and gold embroidery on the neckline and down the middle of the getup. Since the theme honored the life and work of fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, she chose the ensemble to honor the fashion maven’s gold violin dress, which Lagerfeld designed in 1983, according to Glamour

“What I loved about the original design was the musical inspiration of it and the surrealistic touch on it,” designer Gabriela Hearst of Chloé said. “There was something quite timeless that we could bring back to the Met Gala in 2023.” Hearst explained that she decided to modernize the look by extending the hem, so it was a floor-length dress instead of knee-length one. While the original design was black, she chose a white hue for the function. “We made it a gala dress instead of a cocktail dress, and I think it worked beautifully.”

Wilde wasn’t the only one who sported a white gown on “fashion’s biggest night out.” Jill Kargman actually wore her own Karl Lagerfeld wedding dress to the event. The Momzillas author stepped out in a long-sleeved A-line piece with delicate detailing and a bib collar with black accents. She told Entertainment Tonight that she first wore the Karl Lagerfeld original when she said “I do” to her husband, Harry Kargman, in 2002. “This is my wedding dress from 21 years ago that Karl gave me,” she revealed. “No one gets to wear a wedding dress twice, so I feel very lucky that I got to crack her out.”
